It can withstand heat treatments, such as blow drying and/or straighteners, better than finer hair, even after any and all processing. Remy hair is hair which maintains an intact cuticle after colour and curl treatments. It is laying in the same direction as it naturally grew out of the head. The cuticle layer works as a protection layer keeping colour and moisture particles locked in the hair shaft, as well as maintaining strength, manageability and shine.

Non remy hair is stripped of all cuticle and coated in a layer of silicone to add shine. Having no cuticle means that the hair has no protection so moisture content is quickly lost after the silicone layer washes away and the hair is left feeling dry, brittle and unmanageable.
